It is the Boreč hill that offers evidence of unusual natural phenomena. Captivating panoramas are complemented by plenty of unique flora. The Boreč nature trail has 9 information panels. And what else awaits you on the educational trail?
Boreč hill as well as Lovoš is located close to the town Lovosice. To a visitor of the Central Bohemian Uplands it can be considered to be just another of many hills that are part of the impressive panorama. With its height of 469 meters, it is not a special landmark, nor does it have an exceptional shape at first glance. However, it is one of the attractive tourist destinations in this area and it is one of the oldest protected areas in the Central Bohemian Uplands. Together with Lovoš it has other significant firsts. For example, the construction of the first educational trail, which has been helping to show the unique values and rare natural phenomena of the two protected areas to the public since 1981. More recently, Boreč hill has become one of the first sites of European importance that are part of the NATURA 2000 system in the Protected Landscape Area of the Central Bohemian Uplands. In comparison to many other hills the Boreč hill is frequently visited during any season because it offers not only variable views of the landscape, but also always something different from living and inanimate nature. The main attraction for visitors is the unique ventaroly system formed by the cracks in the rocks in deep winter, rare flora in spring and summer and later the beautifully coloured scenery of the surrounding hills and mountains. The reason for it being a part of the European protected areas is the occurrence of the critically endangered Pulsatilla patens plant species, but a nature reserve has been declared here before that in 1951 with the goal to preserve entire communities of plants of warm slopes, rocks, natural rubble and also the flora of this hummocky hill and the unique outputs of hot and humid vapors from cracks at its top in the winter and cold air from the natural rubble at the foot during spring and summer. The exhalation of warm air is linked to the occurrence of a unique species of moss from the Marchantiophyta family, which owes its name to th local hill – borečka vzácná. In 1992, Boreč hill was transferred to the category of National Natural Monuments according to the new law on nature and landscape protection.
