Jewish cemetery and a crematorium - Terezín Memorial

The Jewish cemetery in Terezín is, unlike other Jewish monuments, a very young cemetery.

However it, too, bears important testimony: about human hatred and the liquidation of those who, according to perverted Nazi ideology, have become inferior. The cemetery was established soon after the establishment of the Terezín ghetto in the autumn of 1941. Initially, prisoners were buried in individual graves, but due to the rapidly growing mortality of prisoners, it was soon switched to burial in mass graves. In the autumn of 1942, a crematorium was put into operation, where the victims were cremated.
