The picturesque background of the city is created by the Košťálov mountain and the ruins of the former royal castle. There is the Museum of the Bohemian garnet that offers a a comprehensive overview of the extraction and processing of Bohemian garnet, including a collection of Ulrika von Levetzows jewellery, Johann Wolfgang Goethes last love, who came from the nearby Třebívlice.
The exposition is placed in an area of the former Lutheran church and is complemented by an overview of the history of the town and its surroundings. The third largest Bohemian garnet weighing 2,642 g is to be seen in the museum. Visitors can not only see the Bohemian garnets, but also collect them directly in front of the museum or in the imported garnet sand.
Those interested in castles of the Central Bohemian Uplands will surely be delighted to hear that since 2014 there has been a permanent exhibition of the castles of the Central Bohemian Uplands, located in the building of the Museum of the Bohemian garnet in Třebenice.
The basis of this exposition are Czech - German information banners prepared for most localities of the Central Uplands "castle country", which provide an attractive form of interesting information verified by the latest scientific research on the castles. An attractive feature of the exposition are virtual 3D models of castles, which capture them in their current and reconstructed state, and which are gradually added to the exhibition due to the extraordinary complexity of the work.
