Pastýřská Stěna and the Děčín ZOO
The zoo was founded in 1848 by the town of Děčín and is located on the outskirts of the town. Due to its size, it is a so called “smaller zoos” (6 ha).
Enjoy the magnificent view of the river valley and the historical centre of Děčín town from the viewpoint restaurant on the top of the rock in the middle of the town! A replica of a castle was built upon a 150 metres high rock.
Nearby, you may also visit the local ZOO, that belongs to one of the most unique ones in the Czech Republic. It keeps about 450 animals of more than 150 species. Its main goal is to keep rare and not well-known kinds of animals that will hardly be met anywhere else in the Czech Republic. For example, grizzly bears can only be found here.
It is also possible to visit an exposition named Paradise Islands in the town centre on Teplická Street. You will learn about the fauna and flora of a sea coral cliff, life in the rain forests, steppes, and mangrove shores. You might see ocellaris clownfish, red lionfish, Weber’s sailfin lizard, pygmy slow loris, Atlantic mudskipper, Cuban rock iguana, and python molurus.
