Litoměřice Wine Trail

The area through which the Litoměřice Wine Trail route passes is undoubtedly one of the richest in terms of nature and one of the most attractive tourist attractions in the Protected Landscape Area of the Central Bohemian Uplands.

The official beginning of the Litoměřice Wine Trail is in the yard of Litoměřice Castle, but you may join it anywhere and follow just some parts of it. Its total length is over 15 kilometres and it runs on both banks of the Labe river.

There are nine information boards along the trail that will guide you through the interesting places of the wine-producing region of Litoměřice. From Litoměřice, it will take you to the top of Radobýl hill, where you will find one of the boards. It continues to Žalhostice, Velké Žernoseky, then - taking a ferry - to Malé Žernoseky, and through Lhotka village to Lovosice where the Litoměřice Wine Trail finishes.

Following the trail, you may have a chance to visit the well-known local wine producers and taste their wines. We believe that you will enjoy the trip and love the wine.

Vineyards of Litoměřice monastery cellars

The third stop on the Litoměřice Wine Trail, where you are currently located, is at the vineyards of the Litoměřice monastery cellars.

The winery in the town of Litoměřice, which itself has a very long history. The most significant reminder of this history is the Kalich viewpoint in the center, which recalls the long wine-growing tradition in Litoměřice. Another important reminder are the monastery cellars of Litoměřice. Wine began to be produced in Litoměřice as early as 1057 and is still produced in an ancient cellar from the first half of the 13th century.

After the WW 2, a state-owned enterprise operated here and today Agrofrukt Kamýk produces wine in these cellars. Excellent Litoměřice wine is produced in the monastery cellars from the vineyards you are now in. Furthermore, the Litoměřice Monastery Wine Cellars have vineyards in the villages of Michalovice and Žalhostice. In total, the winery farms on almost 45 hectares and produces both white and red wines. White wines include Müller Thurgau, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Veltlin Red Early and Traminer Red. The red wines are “Svatovavřinecké,” Blue Portugal and Pinot Noir.

The nearest wine lines are called Nad školou, Na jámě, U lomu or Pod Třešňovkou. In Velké Žernoseky, many other winemakers cultivate vineyards other than the monastery cellars. These are, for example, the Mikulenka family winery, the Vín winery or the Antonín Hrabkovský winery. You can learn more about their production at the next stop on the village square of Velké Žernoseky.

WHERE TO CONTINUE NOW?

The Litoměřice wine trail continues along the road and then through the vineyards to the village square in Velké Žernoseky. At harvest time (August, September) the road through the vineyards is closed. During this period, continue along the road to the village square in Velké Žernoseky to see the next stop. We ask visitors to behave responsibly towards winemakers and not destroy their crops.

If you complete the trail from Velké Žernoseky, continue to Žalhostice and under the Radobýl hill, where another stop of the Litoměřice wine trail awaits you.
