Litoměřice Wine Trail

The area through which the Litoměřice Wine Trail route passes is undoubtedly one of the richest in terms of nature and one of the most attractive tourist attractions in the Protected Landscape Area of the Central Bohemian Uplands.

The official beginning of the Litoměřice Wine Trail is in the yard of Litoměřice Castle, but you may join it anywhere and follow just some parts of it. Its total length is over 15 kilometres and it runs on both banks of the Labe river.

There are nine information boards along the trail that will guide you through the interesting places of the wine-producing region of Litoměřice. From Litoměřice, it will take you to the top of Radobýl hill, where you will find one of the boards. It continues to Žalhostice, Velké Žernoseky, then - taking a ferry - to Malé Žernoseky, and through Lhotka village to Lovosice where the Litoměřice Wine Trail finishes.

Following the trail, you may have a chance to visit the well-known local wine producers and taste their wines. We believe that you will enjoy the trip and love the wine.

At the foot of Lovoš

The eighth and penultimate stop of the Litoměřice Wine Trail is located directly below the natural dominant of Lovosice - below the Lovoš mountain.

This hill consists of two peaks, the upper Velký Lovoš and the lower Malý Lovoš (also called Kybička). Several hiking trails and paths lead to Lovoš. The highest point of Lovoš reaches the altitude of 570 m. The very top offers a distant view of the surroundings. At the top it is also possible to have a snack in a tourist cottage from 1924. The first cottage was opened here in 1892. The highest parts of the mountain are protected as a National Nature Reserve due to the occurrence of thermophilic flora. Lovos is a very popular tourist destination.

Thanks to the favorable climate, there have been extensive vineyards on the southern slopes of Lovoš for several centuries. The first reports of vine growing in Lovosice date back to the 13th century. Later, the vineyards in this area belonged, for example, to the Schwarzenberg family. Today, the Pod Lovoším vineyards are cultivated mainly by the Žernosecky winery s.r.o., which grows varieties such as Müller Thurgau, Riesling, Mopr, Pinot Gris, Dornfelder, Blue Portugal or Svatovavřinecké. Especially the local Müller Thurgau is rated as one of the best in the Czech wine region. Tramín from the Pod Lovoším vineyards also achieves high quality. Wines coming from these vineyards can be tasted and purchased directly at the place of their production, ie in the Žernoseky winery, which is located at the Velké Žernoseky chateau.

WHERE TO CONTINUE NOW?

The wine trail now continues along the vineyard and then towards the town of Lovosice, where the last stop on our journey is in the dock. Here you will learn interesting facts about the origin of the first sparkling wine (champagne-like wine) in northern Bohemia.

If you are just coming from Lovosice, then continue up along the vineyards to the village of Lhotka nad Labem and then to Malé Žernoseky, where you can visit the winery of St. Tomas.
